Actress-turned-director Geetu Mohandas was born Gayatri Das in the family of Latha and Mohandas in 1981 in Kochhi City of Kerala. After finishing her schooling she moved to Malaysia and Canada for higher education. Her brother is a nephrologist and works in the United States. Her relationship with the Kerala Film Industry started as a child actress at the age of 5 years in 1986.
In her first movie, she played the role of a fatherless girl who found her dad in an unknown caller on her telephone. Renowned actor Mohan Lal was in the lead role in the movie.

Geetu Mohandas founded her own production house in 2009 and decided to direct the movie with her interest under her own production house. She produced her first short movie, Kelkkunnundo- Are You Listening Under her direction. The short movie premiered for the first time premiered in the International Film Festival Rotterdam and bagged three international awards in in short movie category.
Her first feature film Lair’s Dice was released in 2016 as a director. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2016 and claimed lots of praise and awards at the festival. Later the movie was selected as the official Indian movie by the Indian Film Industry and the government of India as an official entry in the world’s most prestigious Academy Awards, (Oscar Awards) in 2016 in the Best Foreign Film category.
