A much-awaited web series on the true story based on the true events inside India’s most famous Tihar Jail, Black Warrant is premiered and released on Netflix on 10 Jan 2025. The series’ story is adapted from a nonfiction book written by ex-Jail Superintendent Sunil Gupta and journalist Sunetra Choudhary. With this series one of the young actors of the Kapoor family of industry, Zahan Kapoor is making his acting debut.
The black Warrant web series showcases one of the most famous serial killers Charles Sobhraj and his stories while he spent 21 years of his life in Tihar Jai—the life and crime of Charles Sobhraj. Charles Sobhraj belongs to France and traveled to many Southeast Asian countries as Hippi. He was also known as the Bikini Killer for his crime patterns. He was committed for at least more than 20 years and his terror spanned the 1970s and 1980s.
Black Warrant 2025 Release Date on Netflix
The series was produced by Applause Entertainment for Netflix in collaboration with Confluence Media and Andolan Production and is mainly focused on “Charles Sobhraj” one of the Fierce, cunning, Imposter criminals of the Southeast Asian region with many allegations of murder and fraud. He was arrested by Indian Police in 1976 in New Delhi. He was charged with various allegations against him. The story of the Black Warrant series is based on the experience of former Jail Superintendent Sunil Gupta.

The rights to the Book were acquired by Vikramaditya Motwane of Andolan Films Productionn and Josy Joseph’s Confluence Media in 2020. Netflix agreed to release the series and finally, the series will be released on 10 January 2025. In this series, Jahan Kapoor, the grandson of Shashi Kapoor is playing the young Tihar Jail Superintendent Sunil Kumar Gupta. The plot of the series is based on the real experience of the Jailer of India’s biggest Jail.

In his book and latest interview, Sunil Gupta revealed that Sobhraj has strong connections with the Tihar Jail staff and helped him when he visited first time the Tihar Jail office with his appointment Letter as the Assistant Jailer. He was helped by an unknown person, and later he was identified as a Serial Killer Charles Sobhraj. The series also showcased the life and times and other unfolded aspects of the various prisoners.
